Alex Salle for Greene County Board of Supervisors
Commitment to Fiscal Responsibility.
Over 85% of funds the County spends comes from the people who live and work here, and I believe local government has a responsibility to treat those dollars with care. Fiscal responsibility doesn't mean simply spending less. It means setting clear priorities, planning ahead, maintaining what we already own, and making thoughtful investments that provide real value to our community.
As your Supervisor, I will carefully examine how taxpayer dollars are being spent, ask questions when costs don't make sense, and advocate for long-term planning that helps us avoid expensive problems down the road. When new programs, projects, or developments are considered, we should understand not only what they cost today, but what they will cost Greene County to maintain tomorrow.
I will support investments when they are necessary and make sense for our community, while always remembering that those decisions have a real impact on household budgets. Residents deserve a local government that can distinguish between what would be nice to have and what we truly need.

Greene County's Future, Built Together
Preserving Our Landscape
Greene County’s rural character, mountain views, farmland, and natural beauty are a big part of what makes it so special. Growth is inevitable, but it should be thoughtful, responsible, and consistent with the character of the county we call home. I believe we can welcome new families and opportunities without sacrificing the landscape and quality of life found in Greene.
As your Supervisor, I will work to:
Promote responsible growth. Support development decisions that consider their long-term impact on our roads, schools, emergency services, water resources, and existing communities rather than simply focusing on short-term growth.
Protect Greene County’s rural character. Support thoughtful land-use policies that preserve farmland, open space, scenic views, and the natural features that define our county.
Make infrastructure part of the development conversation. Growth should be accompanied by realistic planning for the roads, schools, public safety services, utilities, and other infrastructure needed to support it.
Plan for the Greene County we want decades from now. Land-use decisions made today will shape this county for generations. I will approach those decisions carefully, with input from residents and a focus on responsible long-term planning.
Investing in Robust Local Infrastructure
Infrastructure is about more than roads. It is the foundation that allows our families, schools, businesses, and public services to function every day. As Greene County grows, we need to be proactive about maintaining what we have while planning responsibly for what our community will need in the future.
As your Supervisor, I will work to:
Advocate for safer, better-maintained roads. Work with VDOT and our regional and state partners to identify problem areas, advocate for needed improvements, and make sure Greene County's transportation needs receive the attention they deserve.
Invest in our schools and public facilities. Our students, teachers, first responders, County employees, and residents deserve facilities that are safe, functional, and maintained responsibly. I will support thoughtful capital planning that addresses needs before they become costly emergencies.
Strengthen broadband and connectivity. Continue working toward reliable high-speed internet access throughout Greene County so families, students, businesses, and those who work from home aren't left behind because of where they live.
Take care of the infrastructure we already have. Culverts, drainage systems, public buildings, parks, and other County assets require consistent maintenance. Preventative investment today can save taxpayers from much larger expenses tomorrow.
Strengthening Our Community
A strong community is one where people feel heard, neighbors look out for one another, local businesses can thrive, and residents have confidence in their local government. We may not always agree on every issue, but we all have a stake in Greene County's future. Local government should bring people together around the challenges and opportunities we share.
As your Supervisor, I will work to:
Make local government more accessible and responsive. Residents should be able to understand what their government is doing, why decisions are being made, and how they can participate before those decisions are final.
Listen to every part of our community. Whether you've lived in Greene County your entire life or recently made it home, your concerns deserve to be heard. I will continue to seek out perspectives from across the county, not just from the people who regularly attend government meetings.
Support our local businesses. A healthy local economy helps keep dollars in our community, creates opportunities close to home, and strengthens our tax base. I will support an environment where existing businesses can succeed, and responsible new investments can take root.
Support public safety and essential services. Our firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, educators, and other public servants are essential to the quality of life we enjoy. I will work to ensure these services are planned for responsibly as our population and needs change.
Put residents before politics. County government works best when decisions are based on what serves Greene County rather than partisan labels. I will approach the Board with a willingness to listen, collaborate, ask difficult questions, and find practical solutions.
